SUGGESTED ITINERARY FOR
ANGLING IN ICELAND Angling in Iceland – 5 days + transfers
The idea is to offer them two
main centers for angling to provide different scenery. One is the area in the highlands called
Veidivötn and the other one is a river in the north part of the country.
Following is a short description of those areas: Veidivötn – or the fishing
lakes: To describe the area is hard,
when you arrive there it just makes you speachless. It is so awesome and the
feeling is like you have landed on the moon. The area belongs to the central
highlands where nature is pristine and wild. It covers and area of about 20
km. length and 5 km. wide. The area is one of the greatest volcanic areas in
Iceland within an active volcanic system throught to be at once the longest
and most powerful in the country.
Several eruptions in the area have left behind a striking scenery
dotted with series of ash cones and craters, fissures and lava
formations. In this pitch black desert
of ash green vegetated oasis are found in between in and around numerous
craters and cones that have been filled with ground water, spring fed. There are about 50 lakes like this in the
area different in size. Brown trout is caught in 20 – 30 of those lakes,
mostly 2 – 6 pounders but sometimes they have been seen as big as 10 pounders.
After the release of lake char elsewhere in the lake area it keeps popping up
all over and the char catch is increasing. Svartá river: Located in the north, about 75
km. distant from Akureyri the capital this river is considered among the best
trout rivers in the country within a reasonable price range. The river is
spring fed wiht almost a constant even volume throughout the year. The
surroundings are vegetated mounds and banks with barren rough landscape in
between. The catch consists mainly of large brown trout and lake char. The
river offers excellent fishing spots along the river banks. Day one: Arrive
