Wambiri Hunting Safaris - A Dream Come True!
Their Krüger forefathers not only played a major role in the history, game conservation and early politics of South Africa, but they were also known as some of the best expedition leaders into the interior of the African continent since 1712. True to the lifestyles and traditions of their forefathers, as ninth generation direct descendants , Kjeld Krüger and his older brother, Jéhan, started honing their hunting and bush-craft skills from a very young age in the mid-1960’s, spending most of their free-time hunting, tracking or being students of the African bush. As young boys, they always dreamed and spoke of becoming professional hunters and having their own hunting safari company in Africa.
When the opportunity presented itself to Kjeld, to start a career in professional hunting, he gladly accepted and started as a learner professional hunter in 1985, under supervision and guidance of two (now) retired East Africa old-time professional hunters. Kjeld qualified as full professional hunter, also for dangerous game in April 1988. Hunting as freelance professional hunter for a number of the most reputable safari companies at the time, he gained extensive experience in the hunting all the huntable species of game Southern Africa has to offer, and in the process he also learned which is the better way to run a successful hunting company.
In August 1990, Kjeld established the full service safari company, Wambiri Hunting Safaris (WHS). Rapidly the young company gained local and international acclaim for its very high standards and continuous successes. Apart from a long list of very satisfied clients, this enviable reputation has landed WHS some of the very best hunting concessions in South Africa
Although Jéhan has had his own career as a qualified wildlife ecologist and later being involved in senior management in the corporate world, he qualified as a professional hunter in 1992. Ever since Jëhan has been actively hunting professionally for WHS, and has played a major role in the successes of WHS.
Over the years WHS has developed the expertise to offer top class, ethical plains game safaris, but also gained extensive experience in the hunting of the Big Five, both in South Africa and the Zambezi Valley in Zimbabwe. Not only has WHS maintained the highest success-rate on leopard in South Africa, but it also has probably the best name in the game in the offering of the more elusive species of animals (Collector Species)
Our clients have been partners in our growth, most having utilized WHS’s services repeatedly during the past 15 years, because of first hand experience of our ability to understand their specified and changing needs and satisfy these in a superlative way.

Hunting Permits, Licenses and Hunting Ethics
All the animals offered for hunting (as in the Trophy List) are legal. Hunting in South Africa and Southern Africa is strictly controlled by the Conservation Authorities, and no animal will be offered without the necessary documentation, permits or licenses in place.
All Southern African countries subscribe and adhere to the Convention in Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), and all animals classified as endangered can only be hunted with the necessary CITES permit and TAG number.
Over and above that, we see ethical hunting as the most important wildlife management tool. Even if we have the necessary documentation and permits, and we feel we cannot offer a certain specie of animal in one area any more, we will not offer it, but rather hunt it in another area, we will rather do that.
Accommodation
Accommodation in all the hunting areas is very good quality hunting lodges, or very well-equiped hunting houses. Most of our camps have chalets with en-suite bathroom/toilets as the sleeping quarters. Central to the camp and camp activity is the dining room, sitting room and a central open fire-place (called “lapa”) where we spend most of our time around the fire. Basically all lodges have swimming pools / splash pools (smaller) and / or jacuzzi-spa-bath. Camps are very well maintained and cleaned daily. Almost all the camps have 220 volt electricity.
Hunting Areas
Clients hunting with Wambiri Hunting Safaris only hunt in hunting areas (called hunting concessions) that have been well selected over a period of 18 years of professional hunting. These hunting concessions are well above average hunting areas based on criteria such as natural beauty, healthy populations of game of good trophy quality, but most important to us, it must be able to offer a high quality, sportive and enjoyable hunt to both the client and ourselves. Size varies from 1000 ha to 22000 hectares. The client can be assured to enjoy and learn a variety of hunting techniques during the safari, but also to learn about the African bush and all its intricacies.
Wambiri Hunting Safaris also offers hunts in Namibia and Zimbabwe on a regular basis.
Terms and Conditions
A deposit of 50% of the total package / offer fee, or 50% of the total daily fees for open (non-packed) safaris is required to secure and confirm the booking. The deposit is non-refundable in the event of a cancellation, unless the client provides a substitute for the same period. The balance of the daily fees or package fees is payable 30 days prior to the commencement of the safari. Trophy fees are payable on all animals killed or wounded prior to prior to departure, in internationally recognized travelers cheques or by Visa credit card in the South African bank (weekdays only).

Climate
From October to March, daytime temperatures are warm to hot, with a possibility of rain. Nights are mild to warm. From April to September, das are pleasantly warm, but cold at night.
Health
No special precautions are necessary, except for malaria. South Africa is divided into three different risk areas with regards to malaria, the No Risk Zone, the Low Risk Zone and the High Risk Zone. If taking malaria prophylaxes is a problem, please consult with us or your medical practitioner to which areas are better to hunt.
Important: Should you have any medical condition that we should be aware of, please inform us in advance, in order for us to plan and prepare for it.
Clothing
For daytime wear, cool clothing in neutral shades such as khaki, green or grey is recommended. Also recommended are hats and comfortable hunting boots (soft-soled type). Warm clothing should be brought for the evenings and early morning. Consider that laundry is done every day, except for Sundays, when you are packing your suitcase.
Firearms and Ammunition
We recommend that you bring your own rifles (with telescopes). A selection of firearms are available for hire on prior request. With documents proving you are the legal owner of your rifle/s in our own country, a temporary import permit for your rifle/s are obtainable at port of entry into South Africa. The minimum caliber required are .243 and 7mm for smaller and medium game, and .375 or 9mm for big game. On thick-skinned game like elephant, hippo and rhino, as well as for buffalo, solid ammunition of 300 grains and heavier is required. We recommend you fit your rifles with variable telescopes that can zoom down to 1 ½ or 2, and to use detachable scopes when hunting dangerous game. Make sure to bring enough ammunition for your safari.
Photography and Optical Equipment
Remember to bring along cameras, lenses and other photographic equipment, as well as a pair of good binoculars. We do however pay special attention to quality photographic coverage of the highlights of the safari. Video coverage is available on special request and by prior arrangement.
Other Equipment and Personal Items

Communication
In most of our camps we are able to communicate via internet. Should you wish to use your cell-phones, South Africa’s three cell-phone companies, MTN, Vodacom and Cell-C have extensive networks covering most of South Africa. There are however, still areas where no cell-phone reception is possible.
Liability and Indemnity
Whilst the utmost care and precaution are taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, no liability will be accepted for an injury, accident or loss whatsoever, nor any expenses arising there-from. We have been fortunate, since 1990 we have never had any incident or problem, but even though, the client will be asked to sign an indemnity form on arrival.
