Hunting Leadership (HL) is an up-market, full service safari company. Its exclusive focus is to offer the very finest kind of hunting safaris for the discerning connoisseur. Our typical client is part of the well-traveled and experienced sport-hunting elite who insists on genuine top quality concessions, excellent and readily available game trophies, luxury accommodation in prestigious hunting safari lodges, exquisite cuisine and very, very good services from outfitter, lodge and hunting staff alike.
Direct and personal involvement of the owners started more than 25 years ago when the professional hunting industry in South Africa was still in its infancy. During 1978 Jéhan Krüger, a trained wildlife scientist and conservationist became responsible for supervising the trophy hunting operations of concessionaires at the renowned Letaba Ranch. Amongst the clientele were royalty, and world leaders in politics and business. Jéhan, a very keen sport-hunter, was not acting as professional hunter at the time, but had regular contact with clients, and developed a keen understanding of the requirements, needs and expectations of some of the world’s most influencial and wealthy people. It was the other brother, Kjeld Krüger, who first qualified as professional hunter and took the initiative in establishing a safari hunting business. Starting in 1985, Kjeld has hunted in most of the well-established and top-rated hunting concessions of Southern Africa, first as learner and freelance professional hunter, and by 1988 as full-time PH employed by a very well respected safari hunting outfitter. In 1990, Kjeld established Wambiri Hunting Safaris (WHS), and by 1992 Jéhan also qualified as professional hunter.
From the earliest days of operation certain clients that have hunted with WHS placed great emphasis on premium quality concessions, game, accommodation, cuisine and service, and have been willing to pay for it. Always striving for excellence, WHS responded well to this demand, and developed the expertise to offer top quality hunts to these hunting connoisseurs. This small, select and privileged group of hunting clients have expectations and requirements very different to those of ‘main-stream’ safari hunting clients. They want the best and are prepared to pay a premium for this. Initially, Kjeld catered for the specialist needs of this discerning group as a separate business division of Wambiri Hunting Safaris, and has continued ever since to hunt these concessions with his top clients. In the meantime, Jéhan established Hunting Leadership with a mission to lead, educate, train and guide the sports-hunting industry at large towards improved ethics, code of conduct, hunting and operational skills. This elite and ambitious venture culminated in a joint decision by Kjeld and Jéhan Krüger to turn Hunting Leadership into a dedicated up-market safari hunting company with Wambiri Hunting Safari the parent company.
Over the years these premium concessions matured into even more exclusive and top-class hunting destinations, aimed at the discerning client who is willing to pay a premium for service excellence and quality. Hunting Leadership (and WHS) has offered safaris with distinction, and because of our hunting principles, ethics and skills, many of these premium and exclusive hunting destinations offers Hunting Leadership exclusivity to hunt it with our clients.
WHS continues to offer excellent, above average hunting safaris to the well-heeled international sports/trophy hunter, whilst Hunting Leadership focuses on exclusivity at the very top end of this market. Only the very best and most experienced staff of WHS get selected for Hunting Leadership to ensure that service excellence, skills, ethics and personal values are of the highest standard.
A typical client of Hunting Leadership is often is the kind of person that requires superior, additional services, and extends his/her visit to include business or tailor-made holidays and travel. Jéhan and Kjeld, as registered tour operators and national tourist guides (qualified at the highest level) would be in a position to cater for these needs, alternatively to refer you to service providers that maintain the exclusivity and same very high standards of service.

Hunting Permits, Licenses and Hunting Ethics
All the animals offered for hunting (as in the Trophy Lists) are legal. Hunting in South Africa and Southern Africa is strictly controlled by the Conservation Authorities, and no animal will be offered without the necessary documentation, permits or licenses in place.
All Southern African countries subscribe and adhere to the Convention in Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), and all animals classified as endangered can only be hunted with the necessary CITES permit and TAG number.
Over and above that, we see ethical and conservative hunting as a crucial wildlife management tool. Even if we have the necessary documentation and permits, but feel we cannot offer a certain species of animal in one area any more, we will not offer it. Rather than compromising sustainability we would rather hunt that species in another area, or not at all.
Accommodation
We sincerely believe that our distinguished clients and guests look for much more than just a decent place to stay. At each lodge a unique and distinctive own personality and ambience has successfully been created. Although each has its own afro-ethnic or colonial-hunting style, personality and décor, they all are imbued with a sense of the exotic and romantic Africa, evoking images of stylish indulgence and adventure. Luxury accommodation is in the finest lodges, blending into its natural, often spectacular surroundings. Typically social activities are centered around a main lodge (building) which houses the dining room, lounge, bar and, outside, the central open fire-place (called “lapa” or “boma”) where much time is spent. The sleeping quarters are usually in separate, individual lodges/chalets, spaced out to maximize privacy. All have en-suite bathroom/shower-toilet, and small and private lounge area. Sometimes accommodation is in luxurious, and very well-equiped hunting houses, especially when the sense of old-colonial grandeur is deliberately preserved.. Almost without exception all lodges have swimming baths / pools / splash pools (smaller) and / or jacuzzi-spa-bath. Lodges are very well maintained with crisp bed-linen, daily laundry and piping hot baths/showers and serviced daily. Almost all the camps have 220 volt electricity been created.
Hunting Areas
All hunting offered by Hunting Leadership will be in hunting areas (called hunting concessions) that have been selected against stringent criteria over a period of 18 years of professional hunting. These hunting concessions are well above average hunting areas based on criteria such as natural beauty, conservation status and sound wildlife management principles reflected by healthy populations of game of good trophy quality, and very importantly, it must be able to offer a high quality, sportive and enjoyable hunt to both the client and ourselves. Size varies from 35000 hectares (220 sq. km) to 1000 hectares the small concessions is mostly for special species occuring outside major hunting regions, e.g. red duiker, suni, oribi, etc.) . The client can be assured to enjoy and partake in a variety of hunting techniques during the safari, but also to learn about the African bush and its myriads of natural wonders and intricacies.
Hunting Leadership also offers hunting safaris in Namibia and Zimbabwe on a regular basis.

Health
No special precautions are necessary, except for malaria. South Africa is divided into three different risk areas with regards to malaria, the No Risk Zone, the Low Risk Zone and the High Risk Zone. If taking malaria prophylaxes is a problem, please consult with us or your medical practitioner to which areas are better to hunt.
Important: Should you have any medical condition that we should be aware of, please inform us in advance, in order for us to plan and prepare for it.
Clothing
For daytime wear, cool clothing in neutral shades such as khaki, green or grey is recommended. Also recommended are hats and comfortable hunting boots (soft-soled type). Warm clothing should be brought for the evenings and early morning. Consider that laundry is done every day, except for Sundays, when you are packing your suitcase.
Firearms and Ammunition
We recommend that you bring your own rifles (with telescopes). A selection of firearms are available for hire on prior request. With documents proving you are the legal owner of your rifle/s in our own country, a temporary import permit for your rifle/s are obtainable at port of entry into South Africa. The minimum caliber required are .243 and 7mm for smaller and medium game, and .375 or 9mm for big game. On thick-skinned game like elephant, hippo and rhino, as well as for buffalo, solid ammunition of 300 grains and heavier is required. We recommend you fit your rifles with variable telescopes that can zoom down to 1 ½ or 2, and to use detachable scopes when hunting dangerous game. Make sure to bring enough ammunition for your safari.

Communication
In most of our camps we are able to communicate via internet. Should you wish to use your cell-phones, South Africa’s three cell-phone companies, MTN, Vodacom and Cell-C have extensive networks covering most of South Africa. There are however, still areas where no cell-phone reception is possible.
Liability and Indemnity
Whilst the utmost care and precaution are taken to ensure the safety and well-being of our clients, no liability will be accepted for an injury, accident or loss whatsoever, nor any expenses arising there-from. We have been fortunate, since 1990 we have never had any incident or problem, but even though, the client will be asked to sign an indemnity form on arrival.
